All About the Elves Why the Elves? Usinger's Famous Sausage has always had the Elves on their side. A long-standing tradition in Germany has always had elves working at night to finish the work of the cobblers, bakers, coopers, sausage makers etc. When the craftsmen couldn't get their work finished... there were the Elves helping to get the task complete after everyone gave up for the day. As people immigrated from Europe, they brought the tradition of the elves with them. Even the murals in our store depict the Elves hard at work making sausage. An artist, George Peters who had immigrated from Germany, painted them in 1906. When you look through old company literature, it seems that the Elves have almost always had a presence. Their look has evolved little over the years. They always have a happy expression with perhaps a glint of mischief about them. Its always been believed that the Usinger Elves, in the dark of night, use their magical powers to create sausage of unsurpassed quality and goodness. The credit for really bringing the Elves to the forefront belongs to Frederick Usinger. The Elves, thanks to Frederick, gained an important role in the company as he made them our mascot in the early Fifties. Their presence is felt everywhere. They have been a part of our company image for so many generations its hard to imagine what Usinger’s would ever have been like without the Elves. |
